It was a “red-hot relationship” that led Precious Williams, C’2001, to launch Curvy Girlz Lingerie, an intimate apparel brand for full-figured women.
“At the time, I was a size 28, and Victoria’s Secret made nothing in my size. I didn’t like the selection at Ashley Stewart or Lane Bryant, and at Macy’s, my choices were black, beige and white,” said Williams who is a Phi Betta Kappa, magna cum laude graduate from Spelman as well as a Rutgers School of Law-Newark graduate. “So, I created Curvy Girlz Lingerie, LLC, the ultimate shopping experience for full-figured divas and plus-size fashionistas.”
Currently employing herself and one other full-time worker, Williams is currently earning annual revenues of $306,000. A New York City attorney and a motivating speaker, she boasts 13 U.S. elevator business pitch competitions under her belt and was named the 2013 Black Enterprise Elevator Pitch Champion. In June 2015 Precious was named CNN iReport Entrepreneur of the Month.
“Spelman prepared me to be fearless and determined to be a success as a CEO,” said Williams. “As an entrepreneur, and a woman entrepreneur of color, I knew the odds were against me. Spelman prepared me to outwit, outplay, and outlast my competition.”
